The McAllen Family Medicine Residency Program was established in 1977 with the intent of training family doctors for rural south Texas.  This three-year residency program is affiliated with The University of Texas—San Antonio Health Science Center.  Our mission, then and now, is to train physicians interested in being first contact health care providers.  Our goal is to train physicians to practice medicine primarily in Texas and in rural underserved areas. Those physicians must be qualified to license in the state of Texas upon graduation. We want these physicians to be capable of  serving routine, as well as complicated and critical medical needs of their patients.   The residency is set in a progressive community where  family physicians practice full pediatric, medical and obstetrical services.  Each year the program seeks well motivated residents who are willing to meet the challenge of our mission.  If you are interested in meeting that challenge, we encourage you to explore our website and submit your application.
