The McAllen Family Medicine Residency Program was established in 1977 with the goal of training and educating excellent Family Medicine doctors for rural south Texas. This three-year residency program is accredited by the ACGME, is sponsored by The University of Texas—San Antonio Health Science Center , and is conducted in McAllen. Our mission is to train excellent Family Medicine physicians who will practice medicine in Texas, especially in rural underserved areas. Thus, applicants must be qualified for medical licensure in the state of Texas upon graduation. Our graduates will be competent providers of routine, complicated, and critical medical needs of their patients. The residency is set in a progressive community where family physicians practice full pediatric, medical and obstetrical services.
Residents in the McAllen Family Medicine Residency Program have access to excellent educational facilities in which to learn by “hands-on” experience and training.
